ALEX DEL ZOPPO – GUEST SPEAKER
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 6, 2017 , 7:30pm -10:00pm
ALEX DEL ZOPPO:
FLASHBACK. Woodstock 1969, and the very first band was Sweetwater, with Alex on keys.
As one of the primary songwriters with plenty of live performances & airplay, he continued to study the craft & business of songwriting at UCLA, with John Braheny, Jai Josefs, Harriet Schock & others. Alex established the Songwriter’s Co-Op workshops with Franklin Spicer specializing in “the Anatomy of a Hit”, a deconstructive process popularized by LASS & other songwriting organizations. This led to the creation of an online series called “Songwriter’s Vantage” and involvement with several songwriting competitions including UNISONG. In 2003, he founded Tuneworks, an intuitive approach to songwriting, & he’s also a constant presence in the L.A. songwriting scene, keeping up with all that is going on, sharing both his knowledge AND keyboard chops with his friends playing on the circuit.
TODAY. Coffee Gallery Backstage 2017. Stories from experience, hit songwriting tips, and a little bit of anatomy of a hit will all be part of this special night with the legendary Alex Del Zoppo! As always, we’ll be listening to as much as we have time for, but PLEASE bring it on CD. Thanks!

DAVE HARVEY – SEMINAR AND SONG CRITIQUE
WEDNESDAY MAY 3, 2017 , 7:30pm -10:00pm
Dave Harvey has worked with artists in the L.A. music scene for well over a decade, doing hands-on production, video & direction at places like Kulaks Woodshed, and was a featured speaker at the IMC conference in Hollywood.
As the director of public relations for Songsalive!, he co-produced two internationally distributed CD samplers, and was executive Director from 2008-2012. As a consultant for the Original Productions company, he got to see firsthand how reality shows work, in conjunction with the Discovery Channel & Spike TV.
Combining his knowledge of production & promotion with his love for great music, Dave established the David Harvey Presents showcase series in 2012. As producer & host, he books many of the best songwriters around. With so much competition in the L.A. market, having a successful series of shows is difficult, but Dave’s understanding of the market, & booking complimentary artists together has given him a great reputation as a “tastemaker” that people trust, so even if an artist is not well known, fans come out because of Dave’s stamp of approval. Understanding how to get our songs out into the world, either on your own or through other artists is an important part of what we do, & having someone like Dave on your side is PRICELESS.

BEN MC LANE – SEMINAR AND SONG CRITIQUE
WEDNESDAY APRIL 5, 2017 , 7:30pm -10:00pm
How often have you heard “Get it in writing”, followed by “GET AN ATTORNEY”? if the wrong things are written, getting it in writing isn’t enough! Ben McLane is one of the most active attorneys in the music industry. You’ll find his name in almost every issue of Music Connection magazine, helping to get someone a deal. His website has some of the best free FAQ resources around. He gets it, & gets it done. As the former head of business affairs/CFO for JWP-USA/BMG Records, working legal and business affairs at Rhino Records, Priority Records and as a talent scout for Sire Records, Ben is one of the few attorneys who know both sides of the table well. With Attorney of the Year & more gold & platinum record awards than any wall can handle, his cred list reads like a Billboard top 40 chart. We suggest reading the articles on his site prior to coming so you don’t ask redundant questions. Then, you’ll have some serious specific questions to bring. The kind that usually cost money. Bring your demos & lyric sheets too. If he likes what he hears, you might be next on that client list! Anyone that can afford to give this much away is someone you NEED on YOUR side! He’s coming to share his knowledge, answer your questions & listen to your stuff… FREE!

ED COHEN – SEMINAR AND SONG CRITIQUE
WEDNESDAY MARCH 1, 2017 , 7:30pm -10:00pm
Starting in Connecticut, Ed & his wife founded Miriam Cohen Productions, the largest independent music management /booking agency in New England, working with people like: Jerry Greenberg (later President of Atlantic Records) Craig McGregor (Foghat), Bobby Torello (Edgar Winter), Michael Bolton, and many others. Relocating to Southern California in 2008, at a chance meeting poolside at a Palm Springs resort, he met Robin McCauley, the lead singer of Survivor (now with the Michael Schenker Group). After a two-hour conversation, Robin said, ”You know what I’m most grateful about in life? That, at my age, I’m still privileged to perform and entertain audiences.“ Ed realized that as these artists aged, their valuable musical legacy could be lost forever. He began to revive and restore the 200 plus tapes from the groups he had worked with in Connecticut, and save them to digital media. During the process, he met other like-minded artists & producers. Pooling resources & experiences, they created “Rock Garden Conspiracy”, an all-encompassing music conglomerate covering management, a music label, publishing and music placement working to insure artists will receive fair and honest royalties and promotional efforts.
With over 50 years in the industry you can be sure he’ll have some great advice & stories to tell, & with a company run from a true artist’s perspective.
Bring your BEST on CD & lyric sheets for review! Priceless information, and tonight it’s FREE!

12TH ANNUAL SONGNET AWARDS NIGHT 2017WEDNESDAY MARCH 15 2017 , 7:30-10:00pm
SHOWCASE: Songwriters Show at the Coffee Gallery. March 15th 2017 marks the 12 year of the SongNet Awards night, celebrating those in our community who released a PHYSICAL CD in 2016.
Releasing a physically recorded collection is one of the biggest milestones in an artist’s career. It is a validation that they have created something tangible that is worthy of being shared anywhere in the world.
SongNet recognizes the amount of effort, time & resources required to actually get that project to market, so the SongNet Awards nite has become an opportunity for artists to be recognized for their achievement at a special showcase in March, honoring artists who released a PHYSICAL CD in the previous year. To be recognized, artists need to email Jimi directly (jimi@songnet.info) no later than March 1st, & be available to perform 2 or 3 songs live @ the March showcase. Bringing some discs to sell is also important.
Congratulations to those of you that made it!
